What is Concurrent Enrollment?
Concurrent enrollment offers high school students the chance to take FREE college courses (in-person, online, or hybrid). Students can earn college credit, explore academic disciplines, get a head start on building their college transcript, and save money.
- Students can enroll up to a maximum of 11 units per fall and spring term, and 8 units per summer session.
- Students have a $2 Student Representation Fee they can opt out of in SURF.
- Students are responsible for purchasing books and materials required for their course(s). Learn about more about Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) and Low Textbook Cost (LTC) Classes.
- Students wishing to receive high school credit for their college courses are encouraged to meet with their high school counselor.
Eligibility
- High school students who have finished 8th grade (or are 15 years old) can take classes with permission from their high school and a parent/guardian.
- If you are 18 years or older, permission from a parent/guardian is not required.
Private High Schools
- Recommendations from private high school principals will only be accepted if the school has filed a Private School Affidavit with the California Department of Education.
- If the private school isn’t listed as active on the California Department of Education website, the student will need to send a copy of their Private School Affidavit for the current school year to dualenroll@miracosta.edu.
- Students are only required to submit one affidavit for the current school year when turning in their Early College Credit form.
Home-school Students
- Home-schooled students must show proof that they are registered as a private school by providing a Private School Affidavit for the current school year OR they can get approval from the public high school they would normally attend.
- The local high school must agree that home-schooling counts as valid school attendance and decide if the student has done enough coursework to be ready for college classes.
- Email your Private School Affidavit to dualenroll@miracosta.edu. You only need to submit one affidavit for the current school year when you turn in your Early College Credit form.
How to Apply & enroll
1. Apply for Admissions
- The application is a 2-step process:
- Create a CCCApply Account

- If you don’t get a welcome email after 3 business days, email dualenroll@miracosta.edu for help.
Returning Students: If you haven’t taken classes for 2 or more semesters in a row (not counting summer), you need to apply again.

5. Complete the Pre-registration Survey and Orientation
- Pre-Registration Survey (Required): Check your To Do List in the SURF Task tile to complete the Pre-Registration Survey. You MUST do this every semester, and you won’t be able to enroll in classes until it's done.
