MiraCosta College welcomes students or prospective students to self-identify as an individual with a disability. The Student Accessibility Services (SAS) office supports students who experience a variety of disabilities, including but not limited to the following; acquired brain injury, ADHD or ADD, autism spectrum, blind or low vision, Deaf or hard of hearing, intellectual disability, learning disability, mental health disability, physical disability, other temporary or chronic health conditions & disabilities.
We encourage students who wish to receive academic accommodations to apply for services with SAS as early as possible by following the steps below:
1. If you haven’t already done so
- Apply to MiraCosta College and complete the Online Orientation (Spartan Prep): While this isn’t required prior to meeting with SAS, completing this step will help provide you with an earlier enrollment registration date.
2. Apply to SAS
- Fill out the Online SAS Application. A hard copy is available in the SAS office if you would like to complete and submit in person.
- If documentation was not submitted during the Online SAS Application you must submit documentation of disability to SAS by using one of the options below.
- Fax to 760.795.6604
- Mail or hand-deliver to: MiraCosta College SAS, #3B, 1 Barnard Drive Oceanside, CA 92056
- Email a picture or a scanned version of your documentation to sas@miracosta.edu. When doing so, please make sure to reference your name and SURF ID.
- Or, be prepared to bring the documentation with you to your welcome appointment to review with a SAS counselor.
- Documentation of disability can include your most recent Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan, Veterans Affairs Disability Rating, learning disability testing results, or documentation from your medical provider. If you do not have any documentation available, you may provide our Verification of Disability form to your medical provider and return the completed the form to SAS.
- If you’re unable to provide documentation or if you suspect you might have a learning disability and would like to be tested, please contact our office at 760.795.6658 for further assistance.
3. Schedule an SAS appointment
Schedule a meeting with a SAS counselor by calling SAS at 760.795.6658. Your first meeting with a SAS counselor is called a “Welcome Meeting” and may last up to 75 minutes.
4. Attend your Welcome Meeting
During the Welcome Meeting, a SAS counselor will engage with you in an interactive process to identify necessary services and accommodations to ensure equitable access to programs and services.
