Scholarships for Study Abroad
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
(Gilman Program) enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad.

- A citizen or national of the United States
- An undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States (including two-year institutions)
- Receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship
- In the process of applying to, or accepted to, a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program. Proof of program acceptance is required prior to award disbursement;
- Applying for credit-bearing study abroad programs
The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel during the time of application (including Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Coast Guard, Coast Guard Reserve, Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy, Navy Reserve, Space Force, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and USPHS Commissioned Corps) to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.
The Wright Family Scholarship
This is a MiraCosta scholarship. Details and application will be sent to study abroad
students directly.
Student must be enrolled in a Study Abroad Program at MiraCosta College. Students
must have already completed at least 12 units at MiraCosta with a 2.5 GPA or higher
and must be enrolled at least 9 units.
The Summer, Fall, and Academic Year 2025-2026 cycle will open on November 26, 2024.
FEA invests in deserving U.S. undergraduates who are least likely to study abroad. More than 100 volunteer reviewers read applications each cycle. In partnership with them, we consider financial need, demographic factors, unofficial transcripts, and essay submissions to decide our scholarship recipients.
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate at a U.S. institution of higher education at the time of application
- Receive credit at your home institution for the program or experience abroad
- Have demonstrated financial need
Our mission at Going is to help people travel and experience the world. Since 2017, we've helped young travelers get out there and get going. Twice a year, two outstanding students will win $1,500 scholarships toward their upcoming study abroad program.
The application periods close on March 15th at 11:59pm PST and October 15th at 11:59pm PST. If your application form is submitted after one of these dates, your submission will automatically be considered in the next round.
- Open to any citizen and/or resident of the United States (and its territories and possessions) who is enrolled full-time at an accredited institution of higher learning.
Diverse International Women of Color Study Abroad Scholarship
The Diverse International Women Of Color Study Abroad Scholarship is intended to assist women of color who are exceptional in their studies and in need of financial assistance to study abroad.
DIWC will award $500 scholarships to women of color who have been accepted to an In-Person Study Abroad Program.
The application dates and deadlines for the Spring 2025 program:
Application Period: October 7, 2024 to November 18, 2024
Summer 2025 awards will open March 1, 2025.
In just one application, our Common Scholarship Application provides students access to more than 140 scholarship opportunities with awards ranging from $1,000 to more than $5,000. Some scholarships can be renewed for multiple years to help offset the financial burden for a student’s entire undergraduate career. These funds can be used to study abroad.
