Umoja Ongoing Events
- Porch Talks (Mondays from 12:30PM - 2:00PM PST online or in person)
Porch Talk is Umoja's weekly forum that bridges the gap between community and campus. The Porch is a place where Umoja students build a sense of connectedness with others, learn to advocate for themselves while discussing important topics in the Black community. - Village Hours (Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30PM - 2:00PM PST in the Black Student Union Corner
in the Club Room)
Village Hours are spaces for the Umoja community to meet with an Umoja and/or Student Equity staff member and associates to support students with their needs. This space also builds community between the Umoja community and the campus community.
Umoja Fall Events
- Umoja Conference (November)
Selected students will travel to Northern or Southern California for a 2-day conference. This is an important personal and professional growth opportunity to hear from amazing speakers and participate in outstanding workshops.
Umoja Spring Events

The Student Equity Department supports the planning committee that consists of faculty, staff and students that exist across the college. This committee puts on black-centered events and activities throughout the month of February. - United Black Student Conference
The United Black Student Conference is a student led-endeavor created to heighten collaboration between Oceanside Unified School District schools through Afrocentric workshops, ‘edutainment’ and opportunities to connect with the larger community. - A²MEND
The African American Male Education Network and Development (A²MEND) organization is comprised of African American male administrators who utilize their scholarly and professional expertise to foster institutional change within the community college system. - Umoja Rites of Passage Graduation Ceremony
The Rites of Passage ceremony commemorates the accomplishments of any Umoja Student who has completed a certificate program, associate degree or transfer goal.
