Gabriela "Gaby" Beas is a first-generation Mexican-American, the daughter of migrant farm workers, with roots in both Solana Beach and Encinitas. As the first in her family to pursue higher education, Gaby received an A.A. degree from MiraCosta College and was awarded the Latino HealthCare Professional Project (LHPP) fellowship at California State University Long Beach. During her time at CSU Long Beach, Gaby gained extensive experience in community advocacy while working to eliminate healthcare disparities. After completing a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, she shifted her focus from healthcare to education and has since continued the long and passionate work of eliminating educational disparities, championing equality, and empowering communities. To her success, she credits her time at MiraCosta College. “I had a mentor at MiraCosta who saw something in me, something I hadn’t yet discovered, and she had me apply for the fellowship. Because of her, a seed was planted, which later became the passion and purpose for my career. That is why I have returned to MiraCosta. I want to pass on the gift that I was given. I want to help guide others to find their passion so they too can discover their purpose.”

Greetings! My name is Tereza, and I am proud to be the second member of my family to graduate from MiraCosta College and Cal State San Marcos. During my time at MiraCosta, I earned two associate degrees; one in Liberal Arts in Social Behavioral Sciences and the other in Business to Transfer in 2020. In 2022, I went on to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Management & Organizations. Through my academic journey, I discovered my passion for social justice and equity, which I plan to apply to my future career. For the past six years, I have been serving as a staff member at MiraCosta, where I have had the privilege of fulfilling various roles in Student Equity, Outreach, and Work Ready Program. My primary focus has been on advocating for and raising awareness of available resources for Undocumented & Mixed-status students, ultimately working closely with the UPRISE Program. As an Outreach Assistant, I am currently responsible for coordinating tours, scheduling, and providing support to our departmental projects and goals. My future goals include opening a consulting business/resource site to support historically underserved communities, becoming a professor, and opening my own restaurant.

My name is Raymond Wight, I am a Samoan/Tongan Alumni of Miracosta College, the Mana program, and EOPS. I was born and raised in Oceanside California as a first-generation US citizen and college graduate. Starting in the Outreach program as a student ambassador, I found a passion for helping my community and others in the pursuit of higher education. I'm pursuing a master's degree in marine biology and intend to return to MiraCosta as a professor, to help encourage more students to follow their educational goals regardless of their circumstances.
