Elected officer eligibility requirements (Ed Code, Article 4. 76061) for Executives & Senators:
Students must be enrolled in the community college at the time of election, and throughout the student’s term, and meet any of the following requirements:
- (a) (1) minimum of five semester units, or the equivalent quarter units and (2) meet and maintain the minimum standards of scholarship prescribed for community college students by the community college district. Minimum standards include: cumulative 2.0 GPA and cleared of student conduct restrictions,
- (b) or be enrolled in an adult education program offered by a community college district (Ed Code, Article 9, 84900),
- (c) or is a disabled student, as defined in subdivision (b) of Section 84850.
Student at Large eligibility requirements: Students must be enrolled in the community college at the time of election, and throughout the student’s term.

About the ASG Roles
Elected Executive Positions
The leaders in these elected executive positions are voted in the roles via an election in which all currently enrolled students are invited to participate. They serve on the ASG Executive team and ASG Senate.
- Student Trustee
This person is a leader who serves on the Board of Trustees and represents all students across the MiraCosta College district. They participate in the SSCCC (Student Senate of California Community Colleges) and engage with other student trustees across the state of California. - President
This person is a leader who serves as the leader of the Associated Student Government. They ensure that students are represented through shared governance meetings and that the student experience is central to all the ASG work. They seek out students’ feedback to uplift all student voice. This person leads the ASG and to remain objective, they do not vote on matters unless there is a need for a tie breaker. They empower the voice of ASG Senate. - Vice President, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
This person is a leader who takes responsibility to ensure that all executives lead their teams with diversity, equity, and inclusion at the forefront of their work. They lead the ASG Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to lead a team of ASG members to collaborate with stakeholders to address the needs of underserved students across campus. - Vice President, Community Learning Center
The person is a leader who represents all students, but particularly advocates to support the Community Learning Center (CLC) student experience and meet the needs of students at the Community Learning Center. They chair the CLC Workgroup to lead a team of ASG members to support events and activities at the CLC. - Vice President, San Elijo
The person is a leader who represents all students, but particularly advocates to support the San Elijo student experience and meet the needs of students on the San Elijo campus. They chair the San Elijo Workgroup to lead a team of ASG members to support events and activities at San Elijo. - Inter-Club Council Chair
This person is a leader who is responsible for empowering, leading, and supporting over 50 campus clubs. They chair the Inter-Club Council (ICC) and lead the ICC Executive team, who represent all clubs. They represent all clubs and advocate for the needs of the student clubs. This person is elected by way of an election held by the ICC, not the entire student body.
Appointed Executive Positions
The leaders in these appointed executive positions are appointed after being interviewed by the elected executive members and voted into the position. They serve on the ASG Executive team and ASG Senate.
- Executive Vice President
This person is a leader who supports the ASG President and is the key go-to person for all ASG members. They chair the Appointment Workgroup (to interview senators and students at large, and also have oversight of ASG participation) and they chair the Law Committee to lead a team of ASG members who oversee the ASG Constitution and Bylaws, making necessary recommendations for these governing documents, which goes to a vote of the student body or the ASG Senate, respectively. - Director of Finance
This person is a leader who holds immense responsibly and oversees the ASG Budget, which is around $160,000 per year. This person oversees expenses from the ASG Budget and chairs the ASG Finance Committee to lead a team of ASG members who review funding requests and makes recommendations to the Senate. - Director of Legislative Affairs
This person leads advocacy work at the college, state, and federal level. They chair the Legislative Affairs committee to lead a team of ASG members who review policy issues that impact students and work closely with the SSCCC to vote on resolutions at the CA General Assembly. They also make recommendations for travel to conferences and lobby events that support advocacy work for our student body. - Director of Public Relations
This person is a leader who works promote the ASG to the study body, manages the ASG social media (Instagram, YouTube, etc.), creates and approves purchase of promotional materials, and chairs the Public Relations workgroup to lead a team of ASG members who supports programming across the college to ensure that students are embraced by a welcoming Spartan spirit. - Vice Chair of the Inter-Club Council
This person is a leader who represents student clubs and advocates for club needs. They support the Chair of the Inter-Club Council (ICC) and have a leadership role on the ICC Leadership team. This means that they also co-chair the ICC and address student club matters.
Appointed Senator & Student at Large Positions
These roles are appointed by interview of the appointment workgroup, which is led by the Elected Vice President, and approved by the ASG Senate. They serve on the ASG Senate.
- Senator
Senators are vital to the Associated Student Government. They represent students, serve on MiraCosta shared governance committees, serve on ASG committees and workgroups, participate in ASG events, and uplift student voice. They support programming and create a welcoming space on campus. They also vote on important matters such as spending bill requests and allocation of funds for various student needs. The number of senators varies each year, but there is space for 1 senator per 1,000 students on campus to serve on the ASG Senate. - Student at Large
Students at Large members represent students and support student engagement across campus. They do so by assisting with at least three (3) ASG events per semester. They are not required to attend ASG Senate meetings but are welcome and encouraged to do as they desire. There is no limit on the number of students who serve in the ‘Student at Large’ role. These roles are appointed/ filled as needed, at the agreement of the ASG Senate.
