See what our students have to say
Thus, what a surprise to myself especially, that there is an option right
here in MiraCosta College of having a Math Support Course which enriches your understanding
of higher division Mathematics by reviewing the fundamentals and enforcing learning
by providing: extra videos, extra homework assignments, and prerequisites to be done
throughout the semester.
This is my last semester before transferring yet one of the classes that I hadn't
taken previous to the semester was the math requirement. I have never quite enjoyed
math, I have actually always found it quite stressful which is why I think this support
course (Math31) is so beneficial.
I think what holds a lot of students from doing well in math classes is the lack
of extra support and resources that are available and personally speaking this support
course not only improved my math skills but has also decreased a lot of math anxiety,
like I had mentioned and is preparing me for future statistics classes that I have
to take. Without this support course I highly doubt I would be doing as well as I
am and truly recommend the course to all students but specifically students who may
be nervous or are not as confident in their math skills.
Math 31 the support math class for Math 103 is just that--support. For someone
who hasn't attended a math class in four years, I was a little hesitant to enroll
but I'm glad I did. Math 31 is the refresher on the math needed to tackle the class
material. You are reintroduced to the math skills required as you reach that particular
chapter and if you are already familiar with the skills, then Math 31 is a breeze!
If you've been out of the math world for awhile and are doubting your abilities, I
recommend you take Math 31 it has helped me tremendously!
I was very apprehensive because I hadn't taken a statistics class since high school
and I remember it being rather difficult. I was happy to see that there was a support
class that went along with the regular stats class. I would definitely recommend this
support class to anyone who is not a STEM major or who thinks that they might benefit
from a little extra help in a statistics course.
Having the extra check on my math abilities and a focused idea of what the next
modules will be like has given me a little more peace of mind. It has served as a
good refresher. For the most part, all the students that are using the support class
had similar feelings coming into the class, but it seems all that is available for
us to discuss our work has helped curb a lot of apprehensions and anxiety. I would
highly recommend taking a math support class at MiraCosta College because it is an
excellent tool for academic success, a confidence booster, and a good way to make
sure
you have the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in your course.
It has been incredibly helpful for me and I would recommend giving yourself that
extra help to reinforce what you are learning in your class.
As a new student to Mira Costa and a student who has always struggled in math I
was very hesitant to take precalculus off the jump. I noticed in the eligible courses
provided to me by the school that there was a precalculus class with support and I
knew right away that I wanted to take it. The last math class I took was about 7 years
ago so as you can imagine I felt like I was starting from scratch. So far the course
has exceeded my expectations.
It has been over 5 years since I took a math course so I was very nervous to jump
into Math 126 after so many years and was unsure of how successful I would be in the
course. Taking Math 126 with a support course has been a life saver and an enormous
benefit for me. I cannot imagine taking this class without the support course, I would
have definitely failed. The support course truly does live up to its name in supporting
students navigate through the course. The extra support is game changer for someone
who either has a hard time with math or has not taken a math course in a long time.
This support course is going to be the reason I am able to pass this course even after
such a long break from taking math.
I've had a really positive experience in the Math 126 support course. This has been
my first math course since High School 6 years ago, which had been a really negative
experience and left me feeling very discouraged with math in general. But from the
very beginning of the support course, I felt much more comfortable and like I was
able to follow along much more readily.
