Heather Conklin is a distinguished member of the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees, appointed to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 7 after a comprehensive search for a successor to uphold the high standards of leadership and commitment demonstrated by Dr. William "Bill" Fischer. With her appointment beginning effectively on February 15, 2024, Conklin brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to advancing the mission of MiraCosta College. Conklin serves as the Deputy Director of Policy, Outreach, and Data for the County of San Diego, where she leads initiatives in legislative review, community engagement, and data-driven policymaking. Her prior role as a District Director for the California State Assembly underscores her ability to collaborate effectively on legislative projects. Conklin's dedication to public service extends beyond her professional roles; she is a committed advocate for public engagement in science and co-founded the Science Communication Journal Club to foster innovative communication strategies. Her voluntary leadership in organizing community events and supporting local non-profits further demonstrates her commitment to community service.
Conklin's academic background is as impressive as her professional experience. She holds advanced degrees in public administration and political science and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in social psychology.
