Why HSE?
Originally, I began teaching HSE because I like to stretch myself as a teacher and to work more closely with students. In the process I learned that this class is more than just about learning writing skills; I saw how the HSE students connect with each other and form a close-knit community within our class; we have an opportunity to support and work collectively towards a successful semester.
Themes
We examine many social topics, like the pros/cons of our educational system, technology’s dynamic role in our lives (such as AI), and a main research theme is “happiness” and how American culture influences our perceptions of it.
Reading Examples
Many different articles along with TedTalk and YouTube videos, documentaries, podcasts -- there are a variety of methods to gain an understanding of our topics.
Assignments
Our major papers are constructed through a variety of smaller assignments, including reflections, video presentations, discussion posts, and podcasts.
Personal Interests
I love live music; there are many great local bands to listen to! I am trying to incorporate more yoga into my life to counterbalance all the time spent in front of a computer, but hiking is probably where I spend much of my active time; I walk at the beach a couple times a week and am part of a hiking group, and we choose different trails around the county. The time spent outdoors and away from the media has so many benefits physically and mentally.
